Now running Ubuntu live CD on the iBook

After just posting that I couldn’t get it to work, read a post that suggested doing a live-nosplash at the boot prompt and it worked. Seems that there is a problem with the Ubuntu splash screen on the G4 machines. Weird that they haven’t figured it out and corrected it by now.

Got it up and running but the wireless wouldn’t work, however it told me that it needed a proprietary driver and when I hooked the ethernet up it went and got what was needed, installed it, and turned it on. No hassle at all. Unhooked the ethernet and am now running on the wireless card.

Just tried to get to the spell check in Firefox and without a mouse couldn’t get the right click to work so found and plugged in a usb mouse it it too works just fine. Now to clean off some more room on the hard drive and see about installing Ubuntu on it so I don’t have to deal with the Mac DRM any more…

Cold day in the south

And elsewhere I’m sure but twas quite chilly here today. Not as overcast as yesterday but still quite cool for such a bright sunny day. Did little as I could today. Still feeling the over done weekend so didn’t get out to cut more wood nor did I even finish splitting that on the trailer. Will try to do what I can again tomorrow.

Been trying to get Ubnutu to run on the iBook and having no luck. Just finished downloading Xubuntu and same thing so far. Comes up then got to a black screen and sits there. Seems to be something to do with the G4 architecture. Will go further later when I can make more sense out of it.

For now am gonna throw another log on the fire and read a bit then turn in. Till tomorrow…
