Nothing much Saturday

Spent most of the day working on getting more stuff listed on BlueSprings Bazaar at Bonanzle. Been reading a bit tonight about doing the inventory in a spread sheet and uploading it in one big file rather than doing it one at a time via the flash based data input screen. Should make it a lot faster and easier to work with. Now to find a program that is easier to deal with than Open Office. It does work and I can use it but would actually rather use a database. Guess it’s time to do a bit of googling.

Hoping the heavy snow will miss us as I have several shelters made of tarps that will either require me to get up and knock the snow off to keep the weight down or just let it build up and take them down, which I would rather not do. So far seems to be in Tenn rather than coming down this way as quickly as they thought it was gonna do. Anyway, gonna call it a night, so till tomorrow… ;-)

Wet Friday

Haven’t done much today but more than the past couple of days anyway. Got out this afternoon and took some stuff to the post office in Alexandria. Then went to the West Point Thrift Store for a quick look around. From there as the rain was getting heaver again headed back Weaver way and swung by my folks house for a bit then back home and into the dry. Took a walk to the creek just before dark and it still had several feet to top out over the banks. Fixed a pot of leftover soup for supper. Been putting some of our books up for sale at our site at Bonanzle the past couple of days. Hope to get a few more put in tomorrow. Slow going but then I am putting them on at the Mysterious Volumes website and Blue Springs Bazaar at Bonanzle too so taking a bit more time than just doing it at one place but tis a bit of a backup and also more places for folks to find them.

For now am gonna do a bit more browsing and then call it a night and hope the nasty weather settles down for the evening rather than picking back up around midnight the way the weather service seems to think it will. Till tomorrow… ;-)

Tuesday bits

Took a couple of things to the post office to mail out for E-Bay this morning. Got back and was feeling a bit better so got to looking at the compost pile and the leaf covered raised beds and decided to do a bit of turning them. Which I did. And it wiped me out. Bet I didn’t work more than 30 minutes but took it all out of me. Came in and did a bit on the computer then ate lunch. Took some dough out of the fridge and removed enough to do a couple of loaves, worked them a bit and put them into greased pans to rise.

And Firefox crashed on me in the middle of this. Hate it when that happens. Only lost a couple of lines which is better than the entire piece. Now lets see if I can get the chain of thought back…

Added some flour, water, and salt to the remaining dough and stirred it up then covered and put in front of the heater along with the two loaf pans to rise. Went out back and continued to clear off the old work bench. Got all the junk off it and then removed the plywood and 2×8’s. Cleaned the stuff off the bottom shelf and took the boards off and then removed the support frames. Raked the crap up off the ground where the bench had been and then took the tarp off of half the wall facing the trailer so I can start on getting the uprights and framing up for the next section of the porch roofing. Cat came out and started moving some of the firewood to get to the wheelbarrow and when she got to it found it had a flat tire. So I carried it and the hand trucks to the barn and turned on the compressor and aired the tires up. Brought them back and I came in to take a break. She got it most of it moved to the porch and I went back out to do a bit more. Got down to the Delco jack that I had loaned a guy a while back and decided to see if I could figure out what he had done to it to screw it up. Had plenty of oil but just would not jack up. Took the release screw out and probed into the opening and the ball was missing. Guess he took the damn screw out and lost the ball for some reason. Arsehat! As far as I can tell there was absolutely no reason to have taken it out. And of course when he brought it back he didn’t tell me it wasn’t working. Was nice and clean and non rusted when he borrowed it but had been in the back of his truck in the rain when I got it back and all rusted up. Never again with that person. Anyway measured the opening that the ball had to go into and then went to the barn to see if I could find one that would fit. Found one but was too big, then found an old Toyota throwout bearing. Beat it till it came apart and got the balls out. Looked about right so took some of them back up to where the jack was and one fit right in the opening. Put the screw back in and cinched it down and the sucker jacked right up. Only took about 45 minutes out of my life that I will never get back. Not to mention the raised blood pressure that occurred when I figured out what he (or someone during the time he had it) had done to my nearly new jack. Ah well venting over for now… After getting that finished, did a bit more clearing out and then started moving wood from under the radial arm saw so I can move it and the fridge housing it is sitting on so I can start building shelves and work benches along that wall of the trailer. Worked on it till almost dark and called it a night. Came in and warmed and ate supper then put the bread in the oven. The dough that I had added to in the bowl was not rising too good so I added another cup of flour and some more yeast and a bit of water and am letting it work at room temp for a bit longer before putting in the fridge for the night. Did a bit at the computer and then took the bread out of the oven. Let it cool and tried a bit. Is ok but not as good as the last was. Will see how this that is working now turns out tomorrow.

And I am about done in so am gonna call it a night. Till the morrow… ;-)

Monday On The Road

First stop this morning was to get fuel and then to Wally World for a bunch of stuff for Cat’s Mom. Then headed to Pell City and stopped off at Alabama Thrift Store so Cat’s brother could check over some stuff that we had he wanted to look at before we put it up for sale on E-Bay. He wanted so we sold it to him and then headed on to Calcis. Unloaded the truck of Cat’s mom’s stuff and then I sat and read till Cat was ready to head back this way. Came back and made a stop in Jacksonville to pay the power bill then a quick run through Winn Dixie where we got nothing. Prices just too much higher than elsewhere. Went on north on 21 and then out 204 and went by the new thrift store in the old Edwards Grocery building. Turns out Cat knows the guy who owns the business. I found a pasta maker/roller that I gladly paid $5.00 for and Cat found a box of patterns and craft books that we haggled with the guy for and got reasonable enough. Then headed home. Ate supper and then while Cat went through her box of books I took the pasta machine apart and cleaned and lubed it. It’s missing the clamp but I can make one without much trouble. Glad we got extra flour and eggs today, so I can make some fresh pasta later this week! Been wanting to for a while now but didn’t want to fight with cutting it with a knife. Will see about making a clamp tomorrow and then will have no more excuses for not making fresh noodles…

After posting last night, had an enlightening experience. Went to move a brass lamp that was by the computer and the head swung around and touched the computer and with a flash welded it’s self to the housing, putting the lights and monitor out for a second. I knocked the lamp loose and when the lights came back on unplugged it and carefully moved it away and then took it a part. It had worn through the insulation on the wire in several places and this wasn’t the first time as someone had taped it back together once before. Took it all apart and removed the old wire and now have a string running through it where the wire is supposed to go. Will get some new wire asap and replace it. Am also going to grind the sharp edges off that have caused this and see about putting some additional insulation in that area to keep it from happening again. Do not like sparks and computers mixing company…

Have decided to hold off on building the work bench/storage rack in the temp shed out back. Am instead going to finish some more of the porch roof and put the bench and storage area under permanent roof. Will make more work for a short time but will be much less in the long run as the one under the temp shed would have to be moved when the shed was and one or both of them will need to be moved soon as I need at least one of them over at the yard sale trailer so we can start doing the sales again.

Not sure what the morrow will bring. Will see when it gets here. Till then… ;-)

Sunday

Been a around home day. Was going to try to get to Calcis today but we both woke up feeling rough so put it off a day. Been on the computer all day other than for cooking and eating. Not really doing much other than downloading a few things, reading a bit here and there, and listening to some old Sherlock Holmes radio shows.

Fixed a big pot of blackeyed peas and rice with onion, bacon, and Treet canned meat on the woodburner that we had for supper and will have for several more meals this coming week. Cooked a couple of more loaves of bread from the batch of dough I started yesterday. Turned out pretty good. Was a bit tougher than that I made yesterday but had a better fllavor. Gonna have to work on the large bubbles though. Think the dough got too warm while it was out working as I had it by the woodburner to warm it up. Added more flour, salt and water to that that went back in the fridge so will see what the flavor is like tomorrow or the next day, whenever I cook the next batch.

Gonna call it an early night I suspect so till tomorrow… ;-)

CrunchBang Linux – A Lightweight OpenBox Linux Distro

CrunchBang Linux – A Lightweight OpenBox Linux Distro

CrunchBang Linux is an Ubuntu based distribution featuring the lightweight Openbox window manager and GTK+ applications. The distribution is developed from a minimal Ubuntu install and has been designed to offer a good balance of speed and functionality.

Another Linux distro that I am gonna try out. Downloading the Live CD version now via BitTorrent. Looks interesting and being Ubuntu I already kinda know my way around. Have not tried the Openbox window manager before that I can remember so should be interesting. The list of standard apps includes most of what I use so…
