Hmmm--I need to come look at those Dutch ovens--I might want one.

Had an OK Friday--worked in the workbuilding, mainly. Tried out Clonezilla and it was good. Have a few ideas about how to make my life easier with it, will have to get them lined up and give it a try. It would be nice to have a disk of images again, rather than one disk per image as I have it now. Think I can do that with Clonezilla. Cloned some machines, searched for some software, and found some, though not QUITE what I wanted.

Going to try and rearrange some things here at home today. Have a good one!

Jeez, seven tabs open and I don't want to change any of them to get to your site....I think I may have need of counseling here....

Been busy and haven't had time to post. Also, internet was out at home this morning, so....but the phone still worked. DNS, maybe? That's what I was thinking, and the son ran some diagnostic stuff that said so, so....maybe.

Trying out clonezilla here at work, and I like it! Am cloning second HD with it now (I know that two does not a large statistical universe make, but gotta start somewhere) and it seems to work just fine. I see possibilities...not sure if I can swing the server version yet, but might give it a try. Something I am thinking very hard about trying is making images on a drive and then cloning from those--it looks like it would be pretty easy, but will have to try it and see. 'Twould be nice to have several images on one drive, and be able to clone from any of them. Had that ability years ago with Ghost, but it got weird on me. Gee, who woulda thunk it, right? LOVE being able to boot from a CD, never could get Ghost to do that. My fault, I guess, but I must say that at the present I won't miss Ghost, for any number of reasons--having to use floppies being just one.

Now, to see if I can get a video editor that doesn't suck and doesn't cost going....it looks like I'll have to see what Linux offers, as everything I have tried in Windoze is either
A. not free
B. not sucky
C. both of the above.

Later.

Still hurting quite a bit this morning. Was one of those prat falls where both of my feet went out from under me at the same time and somehow were at about waist level before my arse hit the ground. Big pain was I landed straight armed on my left hand trying to keep my head from impacting a pile of bricks and rock that was behind/beside me, which wouldn't have been near as bad, but the left shoulder has been quite painful for several weeks now, as in move a certain way and brings tears to the eyes and makes one gasp for breath for several minutes painful. Well the impact did all that and more. From the way the back feels it also did some unfortunate things to it's alignment that are gonna take a while to work out. But am in better overall shape than I had thought I would be today, so... ;-)

Well it would be $35 if we only had 5 domain names but we have 7 I think. Two of the sites have two names pointing to the same places. nero-wolfe.us and nero-wolfe.org and calcis.net and calcis.us at the very least. I think we may have more. Some of this stuff is in my name/account(s) and some is in Cat's so it tends to get confusing at times. At present I know of 4 in my name and at least 3 in Cat's, so we'll call it 7 anyway.

Ok, just went and looked it all up. The current domains are:

bluespringsbazaar.net
calcis.net with calcis.us parked/pointed at the .net
cedarspringsbazaar.com
nero-wolfe.us with nero-wolfe.org parked/pointed at the .us
technoprimitive.org

Gonna have to put some more skull sweat into this but looks like the amount of work involved in getting rid of ANY of these at present is gonna be a lot more than just paying for at least another year of hosting and doing the transfer bit slowly. Ah well who needs to eat anyway...

OK--about "money is only good to make you feel good".

Money is a medium of exchange, used as barter. Just having money doesn't do you any good, you have to SPEND it to accrue any real benefit--leaving you broke again. So, you spend it for food (offsets hunger--feels good), housing, transportation, taxes (staying out of prison feels good), those little things from "Josephines Sex Toy Emporium"--whatever floats your boat. (Well, you can buy a boat too--but I digress...)

The above remark about money only making you feel good was not meant to mean that having money is the only thing that makes you feel good, only that money should be used to make life more enjoyable. Make money to live, don't live to make money.

Now, I have to go roll around in the bank vault for a while......

Hmmmm....decisions...prefer donuts....

So, as I read this, you are thinking of dropping domain names at $7.00 per year (if you drop them all, $35?) but keeping the hosting because Cat's site needs all the space? I would look at it as "What do I have tied up in the domain names, either financially or emotionally?" If you have financial interests there, I would think keeping them would be the thing to do. If not, I think it comes down to an emotional tie (for want of a better term--having a domain name that you think is cool/easy to remember/indicative of what you want to say or do) and whether or not you want to cut that tie.

In a really weird analogy here, I dithered about swapping my landline phone for cable phone for a long time, and now that I finally got around to it, only wish I had done it sooner. Same with swapping credit cards a while back--if I had been smart, I would have done it YEARS ago. I have a conservative streak in me (OK, OK--lazy might be a better term) that compels me to stay with something even when my head says it's time to change. Don't want the bother, fear of the unknown, or just plain laziness--I'm not sure. A combo, methinks. But usually if I just look at something as if I were someone else looking at it, it helps. I would say (speaking ex cathedra from my belly-button, as Jubal Harshaw would say) that unless you have some kind of plans to use those domains soon, let 'em go. Conversely, if you drop them, and then decide later to get them back (if still available), what kind of extra expenses are you looking at?

It really comes down to cost/benefit ratio--if you see a benefit that offsets the costs (and it doesn't have to be a financial offset--money is only good for making you feel good, in my opinion--gee that sounds bad, but it would take an entire post just for THAT one) then keep them. If not, dump them. You can always get other domains--of course, you might wind up having to take "223hjgioue45iwee.com or something like that, but that's the breaks.

Just my $0.2, which would pay for about one day's worth of one domain name, if my math is correct....hmmm, that's pretty cheap...maybe I should see if "iwillruletheworld!.com" is available--one step closer in my life's dream....

Hope you aren't stove up too much. The weather has been very much "falling weather", both for people and precipitation. Hopefully that ends today.

Been the usual kind of thing lately. Working on computers and other technical-type things. Spent some time hooking up computers to TVs so teachers can show stuff to the class. Have one building that has TERRIBLE interference bars on the TV screens. Noticeable at best and absolutely unusable at worst. Spent most of the time during the monsoon yesterday getting some computers ready to deploy today, while everyone is home and out of the way. Hope to get in, get them set up, and get out and back home fairly quickly, with the obligatory trip to Wally World in there. Just hope the rain has stopped. I guess we'll see.

Well, gotta go pack the wife's lunch, so I'll check in later.

You must have put a few miles on the Yoyo this week. Beautiful weather for it, I must say...

Friday went. Stayed home and did nothing of any consequence, but got to feeling better. Saturday was better. I got up and did some chores (mainly computer/finance related) and then made an errand run. Paid the water bill, paid on the Martin's bill, got bread, went to the Dollar Tree and got some stuff, picked up some medicine, and finished up at Wally World. Got home and made cream of mushroom soup for lunch and put Swiss steak on for supper. Watched the Alabama football game, and then cleaned up and checked out the computer which had its VGA port ripped out. Still works--no shorts--put in a PCI card and boot Mandriva, which worked until time for the video driver. I plan to put XP back on it (Boo! Hiss!) so it shouldn't matter--we'll see. Ate supper, and didn't do a lot else for the evening.

Now about to go pack the wife's breakfast/lunch for work, and then will rustle up a hard drive for the machine and hook it up. Using the KVM switch that John gave me a while back--swaps sound (in and out) as well as a USB device. Neat device! Thanks, John, if you are reading...I am wondering if I should try to "encase" the pins left behind by the VGA removal to prevent shorts. I have them separated, but something could bump them, and I really have NO idea what that would cause. Comments, anyone?

Well, have fun today!
